Get started by obtaining the right documents…
As a new importer, you need to apply for a federal government business number. You can obtain this through the CRA. Most Canadian businesses are also required to register to collect and remit the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST). Depending on the nature of the goods you are importing/exporting, other documents may be required by various governmental departments. In this situation, we can offer guidance.
We want to know your business, inside and out!
After we have your Business Number, GST Registration Number and any other relevant information (like standard banking/financial info), we can complete your account setup and credit application.
The next step is to prepare a detailed outline of the various products you will be importing/exporting and a reasonable estimate of the transaction volumes and projected dollar values according to your company’s most recent sales forecast. Technical literature covering the goods in question is always very helpful in determining the correct HS tariff classification and duty rate applicable.
